Some people say that playing computer games is bad for children in every way. Others say thatplaying computer games can have positive effects on the way children develop.

Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Introduction

There is no doubt that millions of youngsters play electronic games in their spare time and it has become an effective means of entertainment. Nevertheless, while there are a host of negative aspects associated with continued use, possible benefits to gamers exist and can be observed.

Body

On the one hand, if children are not regulated in their gaming habits, it could cause them to become addicted to staring at bright screens for extended periods of time. As children lack high levels of control, this behaviour would lead to a range of health issues, including poor eyesight, not to mention pain in the neck, back, wrists or waist, especially from extended periods of sitting or poor posture. Moreover, a majority of games contain violent, sexual or inappropriate content that can distort children’s view of reality, leading them to imitate what they see, which may have disastrous results.

On the other hand, playing educational games has the effect of allowing children to learn in fun and exciting ways. Instead of sitting in the classroom or doing their homework, they have the opportunity to educate themselves by participating in enjoyable tasks that can keep their interest. Additionally, certain modern video games, such as Nintendo Wii or Kinect for Xbox have incorporated physical movements into the game, which can give kids much-needed exercise. In this way, they can keep fit and be entertained at the same time.

Conclusion

Consequently, although computer games can have negative effects, with the right amount of discipline they can bring joy to children. In my view, with proper use, this form of amusement can be instructive and delightful for youth.
